Alumina (Al2O3) is an inorganic substance and a compound with high hardness, a melting point of 2054°C, and a boiling point of 2980°C, ionizing into ionic crystals at high temperatures. Currently, about 95% of the world's alumina is used for aluminum smelting, while only about 5% is used for other applications.

It is widely applied in traditional and new material fields. Special alumina is an important inorganic non-metallic material, processed to achieve differences in chemical purity, crystalline phase, particle morphology, specific surface area, pore volume, and particle size distribution compared to metallurgical-grade alumina or aluminum hydroxide. Depending on the crystal form, it can be divided into calcined α-alumina, fused alumina, and activated alumina, while according to its different uses, it can be classified into high-temperature alumina, high-purity alumina, activated alumina, and alumina fibers.
